Pierre Favre Trio
Bird Food
Line up: Pierre Favre (drums), Irène Schweizer (piano), George Mraz (bass)
Recorded at Radio Studio Zurich on February 19, 1968, Bird Food captures the Pierre Favre Trio at the very beginning — the earliest known document of a group that would become one of the defining ensembles of European free jazz. With Irène Schweizer on piano and George Mraz on bass, the music is alive with the urgency and openness of a scene still finding its shape. The recording lay in Pierre Favre's personal archive for more than half a century before coming to light, and it arrives now not as a historical curiosity but as a living thing: raw, joyful, and unmistakably itself.
