Russ Lossing (piano)
Recorded at night on his own piano in his living room near the Delaware Water Gap, Inventions is Russ Lossing at his most unmediated. Six improvisations, selected from sessions spanning May 2023 to January 2024, built on a lifetime of practice and an exceptionally broad musical imagination rooted in classical, jazz, world, and electronic music.
Lossing has been improvising daily since the age of ten. That discipline shows. Each invention unfolds with absolute confidence, developing themes with the logic of a composer and the spontaneity of a performer fully at home in the moment. The result is music that is complex without being obscure, and intimate without being quiet.
