Proximity Alert
Russ Lossing brings together Mark Helias and Eric McPherson for a live session of rare focus and warmth — spontaneous, conversational, and deeply swinging. Cover art by the legendary Swiss poster artist Niklaus Troxler. Liner notes by Bill Meyer.
“The spirit of camaraderie and collision, of discipline sharpened by risk, is what makes this trio's music both vital and alive." — AllAboutJazz

Recorded at Skyline Underground, New Jersey in April 2024, Proximity Alert is built around a deceptively simple premise: three musicians who know each other deeply, coming to the studio without rehearsal. Pianist Russ Lossing has been playing with bassist Mark Helias for over thirty years, with drummer Eric McPherson for around twenty — long enough that the absence of a plan isn't a risk but a method. The music they make together is full of event without being fussy: complex without being complicated, emotionally direct without being obvious. The title isn't a warning. It's an invitation to get close, fully aware.
